The management of Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State has postponed the Students Union Election on the eve of the election after several preparations and anticipations.
In a statement released by the caretaker committee, the major reason for the postponement was as a result damaged network facilities. The press release reads thus:
Good morning great students of FUO. I on behalf of the SUG CTC humbly express my apologies on the events that have characterized our electoral process. It is a food for thought and lesson for us to garner more knowledge and experience.
The 2019 FUotuoke SUG elections have to be shifted to Wednesday next week because an essential facility on the MTN installation got burnt by electrical current emanating from generating plant on Thursday night, we have been assured by MTN that the situation will be restored this morning.
The electoral process will still go on as plan with little adjustments as follows; manifesto night is now Tuesday 4pm and elections on Wednesday.
Lectures will end 4pm on Tuesday and Wednesday will be lecture free so that all students will participate fully.
Finally, I still remain apologetic and takes responsibility for all that has happened.
Comr. Ikosomi Ibarakumo Barry
chairman SUG FUO.
With this postponement, students have started agitating that the management should allow them select their leaders by manual voting rather than imposing electronic voting on them because with this, they are giving them the impression that the election will be rigged.
