Man O’ War Nigeria, Federal University Otuoke, Crocodile Combatant Unit, Bayelsa State Command has conducted passing out parade, handing over ceremony and investiture of Grand Patron, Patrons and Patronesses at the West Campus of the University on Friday, May 24, 2019 with fanfare.
The Grand Patron of Man O’ War Nigeria FUO Crocodile Combatant Unit, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Seth Accra Jaja, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Teddy Charles Adias in his opening remarks said the act of surrendering oneself to service is very enormous, emphasizing that it is an avenue to prepare the students for national service.
The Vice Chancellor informed that the voluntary enlistment of students into the Man O’ War is an eloquent testimony of their zeal and the desire to place public service above personal gain. He noted that the task to be educated is very good but humility to offer oneself for service carries greater value, adding that there is reward for service.
The Grand Patron expressed the commitment of the University Management to support Man O’ War Nigeria FUO Unit to attain lofty heights. He inspected and reviewed the parade mounted by the cadet and charged them to perform their duties on campus to enforce discipline among students.
The Bayelsa State commander of Man O’ War, Mr. Victor Lawrence Ikaibimo conducted the inauguration ceremony of the new FUO executives of the Man O’ War and the investiture of Grand Patron, Patrons and Patronesses.
He administered the Oath of Office on the newly recruited officers, which was followed by presentation of working certificates to all the serving and new members among who are Eliza A Okon, Akapan David Austin, Obano David, Ogbonna Kingsley, Ayanele Charles Nwabueze, Oya Majesty Chukwunele and Afieya Nkemfem.
The serving officers are Owosa Nwaka, Nachukwu Sunday, Acharu Vera Chioma, Akpabi Divine, Eyendu Jennifer, Idibia Precious and Sunday Samuel Chikweke.
The Man O’ War Bayelsa State commander charged the serving and newly recruited cadets to avoid cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractices and other social vices inimical to their educational pursuit, which he stated is capable of bringing Man O’ War into disrepute.
The representative of the Nigerian Army 16 Brigade Yenagoa, Captain B.E Agirigu in his advice enjoined the serving officers to bear in mind that Man O’ War is a Para-Military organization with ample opportunity for them to enlist into the Nigerian Armed Forces. He charged them to imbibe team spirit, discipline and exhibit exemplary conduct worthy of emulation.
The staff found worthy in character, conduct and commitment to duty and inducted as Patrons and Patronesses include the Registrar, Mr. Donald Yousuo Iruo, Bursar, Dr. Uche Tobi Agburuga, HOD Computer Science Dr. Nlerum Promise A. Engr. Aniseyi Obiora, Bestman Azibola Egba.
Others include PRO Mercy Ekott, Mrs. Andabi Amangi Edomo, head Guidance and Counselling Unit, Dr. (Mrs.) Juliet Teibowei, and HOD Chemical, Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Engr. Mamukuyomi Julie.
The Bayelsa State Man O’ War Commander, Victor Lawrence Ikaibimo decorated the newly inducted Patrons, Patronesses and presented them with certificates. He informed that their role as Patrons and Patronesses of the Man O’ War is advisory and support to enable them succeed on campus.
The Grand Patron supported by the Bayelsa State Man O’ War Commander, the outgoing FUO Commander –in-Chief, Ukachukwu Godwin Chukwudi, Captain B.E Agirigu and other invited dignitaries unveiled and cut the three years Anniversary celebration cake.
The programme featured parade display by NDU cadets, silent drill parade by Man O’ War Cadet Club, marching off colours and other side attractions that added colour to the passing parade and handing over ceremony.
The outgoing Commander-in-Chief Man O’ War FUO Ukachukwu Godwin Chukwudi gave the vote of thanks while Sunday Samuel as the Parade Commander.
Dignitaries that graced the occasion include Topman Otonye, Chief Training Officer, Samuel Ebibokefe, o.c Opratons, AgboroLucky (aka) Dr. Wizzy, DSP from Delta State Command, Denis Ogboradi, Delta State Welfare Officer.
