FUOtuoke VC donates a brand new official vehicle to newly elected sug executives of federal university otuoke.
The newly elected Student Union Government SUG executives of Fedeal University Otuoke, FUOtuoke were inaugurated into office today and a brand new official vehicle was presented to them after the inauguration which was received by the president of the union, Comr. Debekeme Kojo Debekeme.
The school management under the leadership of the vice chancellor Professor Seth Accra Jaja today said it is part of support from the management. He further stated that the management would fuel the bus for a period of six months and also provide a driver for the vehicle.
After handing over the vehicle to them, the VC made it categorically clear that the bus was bought by the school management and not with the union’s fund and at such, all journey outside Bayelsa state with the vehicle must be approved by the school management of which the Union will have to write a letter to the VC through the university registar.
Since the bus wasn’t procured from the students union dues but from the school purse, the school management would oversee how the vehicle is used and that every journey outside the state would first of all go through a letter from the executive to the registrar of the university.
Now as much I as love the fact that our union has been presented with a vehicle to ease their movements which of course is a huge upgrade to the status quo of the current government because their predecessors did not get such opportunity.
I don’t like the idea of seeking approval from the management before using the vehicle to make journeys outside the state. This is another tactics employed by the management to monitor the affairs of the government as the purpose of every movement must be known
What is the essence of giving a student union government which is an independent body an official vehicle when permissions must be taken before embarking on Inter-state journeys with it. There are other ways to make sure the vehicle is properly maintained.
I am advising the executives of our dear young union to please tread with caution as we wouldn’t want the management to meddle into the affairs of the union. Till date, we are still trying to get our financial autonomy and adding any form of monitoring won’t be a good idea.
