The 2019 Freshers/Returning Student Welcome Back party recently held at Alamis Hotels was brought together by House of Desire.
Now before I start this review, Permit me to briefly introduce House of desire to you. House of desire is an event organising outfit which has been in FUO for quite some time now and has been hosting series of events before this time, some successful and not all that successful as well. For the sake of this particular event and many more to come, House of Desire decided to partner with other bodies on campus such as Mr. Softy, Much More Naija and also FUO Campus Gist (media partners) etc in an effort to make the event a remarkable one after the long holidays.
Now let’s go straight to the event review proper.
Keeping to event time has always been a major problem for event organizers in Otuoke and this welcome back party was not left out. The event was supposed to kick off by 8pm and close by 10am after which those who wish to go home can go home while party freaks can stay back at the club till whenever they want BUT! As usual, by 8pm, nothing was happening yet.
The event finally got started around past 9pm as only a few students were even around. Those who came earlier decided to go and come back later.
THE VENUE & SECURITY
The event of the event was very conducive though a bit far from the centre (this made the motorcyclists to increase their fares since it was a night event). There was proper arrangement of the chairs and tables and the provision of separate sounds for the event and the club made it a new development but, the sound outside was not up to standard but I can say it’s over and above average.
Security, as promised by the event organizers, was very very Ok as there was the presence of some military personnel inside and around the vicinity of the event. There were no security challenges all through the event.
The organization of the whole event was not too good. There was disorderliness, too many random movements, people leaving the event outside to go into the club. The performances by various performers were not times so they had so much luxury of time. At a point, I became bored and tired with the Mcs and what they were doing.
The ticketing and entry of the event were not all that organized to me because some revenues were lost due to improper strategy in confirming who and who bought the ticket. I believe they noticed this when they decided to put some measures in place to checkmate entry into the premises.
Also, there were seizures of light inside the point at different times during the party (which is from the Venue and not really the fault of the organizers though). I thought Alamis would have used the long holiday, coupled with the ASUU strike period to get their light issues in place because it is a regular for them.
The event became a boom towards the ending with the dance battle and twerk battle, OMG it was mind-blowing.
For other event organizers who wish to hold events such as this, I would like to recommend that you fix your events at the centre so that people don’t have to think about transport and security first immediately they see your venue. Also make the process of verifying event tickets easy to spoil the mood of the people at the gate when they come for your event.
Lastly, please adhere to time and make sure every performer works according to time.
In conclusion, I think I would rate the 2019 welcome back party a sixty percent (60%) success rate considering the above features, coupled with the many giveaways by the various sponsors which of course, most were given instantly.
